Ecosystem Vitality Index

A dynamic score of entrepreneurial vitality for every Moroccan region — density of active actors, fluidity of new firms and funding, connectivity between actors, and diversity of sectors and stages. Recomputed monthly on a rolling 12-month window.

Scores follow the Kauffman Density–Fluidity–Connectivity–Diversity framework (Stangler & Bell-Masterson, 2015). We combine sub-scores with a geometric meanafter Stam (2019) and the Penalty-for-Bottleneck method (Almeida et al. 2025), so a weak dimension pulls the composite down. Connectivity uses the relational signal Johnson et al. (2022) argue is central to ecosystem quality. The dynamic, rolling-window design mirrors the Surge Ecosystems Index (Belfanti et al. 2025), pragmatic for partially scraped data. Coverage % reports how much of the underlying data was present for each region — treat regions with < 40% coverage as directional, not comparative.
